Take the Red Letter Challenge!

What if we take the words of Jesus and actually put them into practice?

That’s the premise of the Red Letter Challenge.

Hey, buy this book. It’s called Red Letter Challenge by Zach Zehnder. If you go to our church, we have them available for a discount. If you don’t, go to redletterchallenge.com and click on “Buy the book.” We’re using this church-wide starting Sunday, April 8, so you can also hear messages at sjlchurch.org/sermons. But seriously, buy this book and follow along.

I’m going to hand this over to Jesus, and let Him throw down this challenge:

“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. the rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.” -Matthew 7:24-27

Got any more for us, Jesus?

“Blessed rather are those who hear the Word of God and obey it.” -Luke 11:28

Works for me. It’s almost like there’s more to life than just knowing things. Hey, James, you were Jesus’ half brother; any advice?

“Do not merely listen to the Word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.” -James 1:22

Well, there you go. This is really simple. But what do you think would happen to our marriages, to our families, to our neighborhoods, to our schools, to our communities, to our churches, if we actually took this seriously?

Let’s find out.

Take the challenge. This isn’t about a book you read; this is about a life you live, led by Jesus.
