In this world, you will have trouble. That’s a promise straight from the mouth of Jesus.
But take heart, I have overcome the world. That’s a promise, too.
The world will hate you. Again, straight from Jesus.
But don’t worry, it hated me first; and I chose you. More Jesus.
Let not your hearts be troubled. Why?
- I am going to prepare a place for you.
- I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life.
- I am sending the Helper, the Holy Spirit.
- I am leaving my peace with you.
- I am abiding with you, and you will bear fruit in Me.
- I am promising my steadfast love, and a “full” joy.
Jesus said all these things the night He was betrayed, denied, and arrested.
I’m writing all these things down, because it helps to articulate them. It helps, because I, like you, am routinely troubled. Sometimes even uncertain or afraid. Sometimes left feeling helpless at things that I know aren’t right in the world, but that I also can’t control.
What makes me feel better?
Really, the only thing that does is Jesus talking to me. Not denying that reality sometimes bites. But after telling the truth about my reality, offering a steady stream of promises.
I am with you always. I will never leave you or forsake you. I know the hairs on your head. Your sorrow will turn to joy. I have overcome the world. I prayed for you in the garden the night I was arrested, and I hear your prayers and intercede for you with the Father now.
The promises are unlimited. There is confidence in that.
There is confidence in Jesus.
