Joshua knew it might happen. He knew they might not listen. Or they might listen, but they might also soon forget:
‘Choose this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your fathers served in the region beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord’ (Joshua 24:15).
The Lord knew it would happen.
Way back when Moses was still alive, He gave a preview. Deuteronomy 28. The Lord started with blessings for obedience. Blessings that are indescribably abundant and generous, from the hand of God. Prosperity. Security. Peace.
But then He described the curses for disobedience, and laid out in painstaking detail what would happen.
Frustration in everything you undertake.
Defeat before enemies.
Wicked and ruthless kings.
A yoke of oppression from a ‘hard-faced nation who shall not respect the old or show mercy to the young.’
The people will forfeit the promised land, and families will be shattered…and scattered.
God has blessings for those who stand with Him, for those who say, ‘But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.’
Which description fits you? Look again at how God desires to bless you.
He wants that to be you. If that hasn’t always been you, do you know the next step?
